US President Will Meet Chinese President If Dialogue Looks Positive
(Baonghean.vn) - On October 12, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said that President Donald Trump will move forward with plans to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the G20 Summit next month, if the meeting is positive.
In an interview with CNBC on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank (IMF-WB) taking place in Bali, Indonesia, Mr. Mnuchin stated: "If we can provide a positive direction, then I am sure that President Trump will hold talks. However, we need to do the preparation work to ensure that there will be changes, and we can have a more balanced trade relationship."

In addition, the US Treasury Secretary expressed concern about the decline in the value of the yuan, and raised this concern during a meeting with the Governor of the People's Bank of China Yi Gang in Bali.
While not specifying whether the US Treasury would declare Beijing a “currency manipulator” in a report expected to be released next week, Mr. Mnuchin said he had “constructive discussions on the currency” with Mr. Yi.
Also in an interview with CNBC, Mr. Mnuchin affirmed that he still plans to attend a Saudi Arabian investment conference, despite the current increased tension related to the disappearance of a famous Saudi Arabian journalist in Turkey./.
