Russian President Asks Argentine Leader to Help Search for Missing Submarine

Vladimir Putin in a telephone conversation with the President of Argentina offered cooperation and help in searching for the missing submarine “San-Huan”, the Kremlin press service said.

"In a telephone conversation Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed support from the President of the Argentine Republic Maurisio Makri regarding the situation with the submarine "San Juan" lost in the Atlantic Ocean", — the statement said.

Russia has asked Argentina to help with the search operation. The leaders of the two countries also agreed to establish contact between the two defense ministries to save the lives of the submarine crew.

The Argentine Navy earlier announced that the "emergency phase" of the search for the submarine had begun.

Fleet representative Enrike Balbi was speaking to Telam news agency, stressing that the submarine was running out of oxygen, but no traces have been found so far.
