Russian President Putin - a greater global security threat than IS
(Baonghean.vn)- On May 30, US Senator John McCain declared that Russian President Vladimir Putin is a greater threat to global security than the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS). Mr. McCain warned that the US Senate should step up sanctions against Moscow because Russia is believed to have interfered in the US presidential election.

"I think he is the first and foremost threat, more than ISIS... So we need to step up sanctions and hopefully after the recess the Senate will move forward with sanctions on Russia and other penalties for Russia's actions," McCain, a leading foreign policy voice in the US Congress, said in an interview in Australia, where he is holding security talks before attending a defence summit in Singapore.

Mr. McCain, Chairman of the US Senate Armed Services Committee, said that while there is no evidence that Russia succeeded in changing the results of the US presidential election, they have plotted to change other elections, including the recent French presidential election.
Mr. McCain, a critic of President Donald Trump, believes that the national security team around Mr. Trump is developing a strategy that will lead to victory in Afghanistan, and that Mr. Trump has strong confidence in this team.
