White House Deputy Press Secretary Eric Schultz told reporters Friday that Obama would not revisit the decision to bomb Hiroshima, ruling out the possibility that the president would discuss the right or wrong of the decision or offer an apology.
Mr. Eric Schultz said that Mr. Obama will reaffirm America's commitment to a nuclear-free world.
Mr. Obama is expected to visit Hiroshima on May 27, after attending the G7 Summit in central Japan.
He will visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial to lay a wreath, take a short tour and give a speech about his impressions of the city.
