“Yesterday, before the votes were counted, I recorded a video… in which I told the American people… the sun will still rise in the morning. I know everyone had a long night, and so did I,” President Obama said at the beginning of his speech.

Mr. Obama said he spoke with “new President Trump” at 3:30 a.m.

President Obama admits that there are significant differences between him and Mr. Trump. But eight years ago, former Republican President Bush and Mr. Obama also had major differences…

“We are all rooting for Mr. Trump to unite and lead our country,” Mr. Obama said. “The peaceful transfer of power will be accomplished, and this is one of the hallmarks of American democracy.”

He also mentioned former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who lost to Mr. Trump by a large margin. Mr. Obama expressed his pride in Mrs. Clinton. All Americans respect her. Her tireless perseverance during the 8-year presidential campaign is a miracle.

Finally, Mr. Obama emphasized, “we are all in the same boat.”

It can be said that Mr. Trump's rise was a heavy blow to the efforts of Mrs. Clinton as well as Mr. Obama during the election campaign. Mr. Obama failed to hand over the keys to the White House to a member of his own party, Mrs. Clinton.

With Congress re-controlled by Republicans and the President also being a Republican, many people worry that the legislative and executive legacy of his predecessor Obama will no longer be secure.

Earlier in the day, Hillary Clinton also delivered a speech announcing her defeat in the election. Although disappointed with the election results, she declared that she would work with President-elect Donald Trump, and urged Democrats to give him the opportunity to lead this deeply divided nation.

Mr. Trump rated Mrs. Clinton's speech as excellent./.
