President Obama: Vietnam and the US need to cooperate deeply for prosperity

In his speech, President Obama praised Vietnam's long history with quotes about Dong Son culture, thousand-year-old Hanoi, the Vietnamese people's brave spirit against foreign invaders, especially quoting two famous verses of Ly Thuong Kiet: "The mountains and rivers of the Southern country belong to the Southern king. Fate is clearly determined in the book of heaven."

President Obama praised Vietnam's efforts in poverty reduction, education, and health care.

President Obama affirmed that the goal of his visit is to build a foundation for future bilateral relations. It took the two countries many years to mend relations, become friends and partners. The lesson of war will be an example for the whole world. Build peace because peace is always better than war. The United States wants to prioritize the comprehensive partnership with Vietnam.

Mr. Obama praised Vietnam’s rapid development in the past 20 years since the US normalized relations with Vietnam. He also affirmed that Vietnam and the US are cooperating to resolve the consequences of war by clearing bombs and mines and cleaning up dioxin in Da Nang and Bien Hoa. The efforts of both sides have helped improve the relationship between the two countries.

The US President suggested that both sides need to cooperate more deeply to promote the prosperity of the two countries. The US welcomes Vietnamese students to study in the US. Many US scholars have been present in Vietnam to support Vietnamese students and intellectuals in accessing new technology. The US President expressed his delight at the establishment of Fulbright University in Vietnam.

In his speech, the US President also mentioned the TPP Agreement and said that the Vietnamese people will benefit from this agreement through exporting more goods.

Regarding the East Sea issue, President Obama called on all parties to resolve the issue through peaceful means and respect international law, and not to use force to oppress other countries. Conflicts must be resolved through peaceful means.

President Obama praised the progress Vietnam has made in improving its economy and ensuring the rights of its people. He also stressed that the world is facing serious challenges related to climate change and called on Vietnam to join efforts to deal with climate change.

The US President hopes that the youth of the two countries will play a decisive role in the future of cooperation between the two sides.
