"The truth is that the US ship-launched Tomahawk missiles are getting old. According to Russian data and experts, their actual combat effectiveness in Iraq and Syria is only 30%. Their aircraft-launched cruise missiles have higher combat efficiency,"Ria Novostiquoted Russian President Vladimir Putin speaking yesterday at a meeting with officials of the country's Defense Ministry.

The Syrian army in late April transferred to Russia two unexploded Tomahawk cruise missiles from the US, UK and France after the attack on April 14. In the airstrikes, the three-nation coalition launched hundreds of missiles at Syria after accusing the country of using chemical weapons against civilians.

The acquisition of Tomahawk missiles helped Russia to clearly identify many technical parameters such as communication channels, control and positioning systems, allowing to effectively respond to attacks by Tomahawk cruise missiles in all stages of their operation.

Western military analysts believe that dissecting the cruise missiles captured by the coalition from Syria will help Russia improve its air defense system in Syria, supporting Damascus and many countries in developing plans to deal with large-scale cruise missile attacks by the US and its allies in the future.
