As a State Party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Russia consistently adheres to the spirit and letter of the Treaty.

Speaking at the 10th Conference to review the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed that nuclear war must never be allowed to happen.

According to President Putin, “there are no winners in a nuclear war and it must never be allowed to break out.” Russia supports equal and indivisible security for all members of the world community.

The Russian President said that all countries that comply with the requirements of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty “must have access to peaceful nuclear energy without any additional conditions.” Russia is ready to share its experience in the field of nuclear energy with its partners.

Mr. Putin stressed that, as a state party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Russia “consistently adheres to the spirit and text of the Treaty.” Russia’s obligations under bilateral agreements with the United States on relevant arms reduction and limitation have also been fully implemented.

President Putin assessed that, over more than half a century of existence, the Treaty has become one of the important elements of the international system of security and strategic stability, and the obligations stipulated by the Treaty fully meet the interests of both nuclear and non-nuclear states.

Russian President Putin concluded that Russia hopes the conference will reaffirm the countries' readiness to non-proliferate nuclear weapons, in order to ensure peace, security and stability in the world.

Previously, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov also affirmed that preventing direct conflict between nuclear powers is Russia's absolute priority.

The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty officially entered into force on March 5, 1970 and the Treaty Review Conference has been held every five years since 1975. This conference took place from August 1-26 in New York, USA.

Public opinion hopes that relevant parties will fully and strictly comply with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and that nuclear powers will always exercise restraint and not make miscalculations to prevent the risk of nuclear war./.
