"They don't like our independence, our own views on the development of the region," Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani said on the "60 Minutes" program on the American channel CBS.

According to him, his opponents do not like Qatar's desire to become a democratic country. In addition, Qatar's support for Al Jazeera TV channel is also the reason for this conflict.

"But we will not close Al Jazeera… We want the conflict with the Gulf countries to end but we will never give up our independence," he declared.

Responding to a question about the Persian Gulf countries' desire for regime change in Qatar, Mr Al Thani said: "Yes, they want the regime in Qatar to be changed."
