The level of Western military assistance to Ukraine turned out to be insufficient, which is why Kiev is expected to face military difficulties, Czech President Petr Pavel said in an interview with the Corriere della Sera newspaper.

Answering the question of whether the West is prepared to provide military assistance to Ukraine, the Czech President regretfully noted that the current supply of ammunition is not enough for Ukraine to continue active military operations.

“We failed to keep our promises regarding the supply of artillery shells; the training of F-16 pilots did not progress at the proper pace,” Mr. Pavel complained.

According to him, instability is growing in countries that support Ukraine and this winter will be extremely difficult for the Ukrainians themselves due to the destruction of infrastructure.

“So it will be extremely difficult for the Ukrainian people, we also have to take into account their spirit. In the absence of support from the countries that are currently helping Ukraine, the feeling of disappointment will increase,” the Czech President said.

At the same time, he added that the situation is “not very favorable” for the Ukrainian armed forces to continue their offensive, and also creates “uncertainty” that hinders Kiev's military planning.

The Ukrainian armed forces have been trying to advance in the southern directions of Donetsk, Artemovsk and Zaporozhye for six months now, bringing into battle NATO-trained brigades equipped with foreign weapons and equipment. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Ukrainian counteroffensive has practically failed.

The failure of the Ukrainian army has also been acknowledged by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valery Zaluzhny. In an article for The Economist, he wrote that Kiev was in a stalemate and “there is very likely no deep and beautiful breakthrough”. Zaluzhny also complained that he has not shown the impressive speed of advance that the West expected according to the NATO textbook.
