On October 20, US President Donald Trump affirmed that although he was not satisfied with Saudi Arabia's response to the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the consulate in Türkiye, he did not want to shelve a multi-billion dollar arms deal with the Middle Eastern country.
Speaking to reporters, President Trump said that the Saudi government's admission that journalist Khashoggi was dead was an important first step. However, he still wanted a clearer answer on this issue.
He also said that delaying arms sales to Saudi Arabia would affect 1 million jobs in the US. However, he said there were still other measures that could be taken, such as sanctions against Riyadh.
Saudi Arabia has previously admitted that Khashoggi died in its consulate in Istanbul after a fight there. However, the whereabouts of his body are still unknown.
Riyadh also said 18 Saudi citizens had been arrested and two senior aides to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and three intelligence officers had been dismissed.
However, Germany and the UK still spoke out asking Saudi Arabia to conduct a "comprehensive investigation" into this issue./.
