According to RIA Novosti, US President Donald Trump hopes the conflict in Ukraine will be resolved in the near future and is determined to prevent it from escalating into World War III. These were the main statements of the White House owner after negotiations with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Mr. Trump commented that the conflict in Ukraine could be resolved in the next few weeks. According to Mr. Trump, negotiations with Russia on resolving the situation in Ukraine are going very well; the parties have made significant progress in a short period of time.
The conflict in Ukraine could escalate into World War III and the US intends to prevent such an outcome.
President Trump said he wants to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and details are currently being worked out. The US leader wants to visit Moscow, but a visit on Victory Day (May 9) would be "too soon".
It will be up to European countries to provide security for Ukraine after the conflict is resolved. Trump is not opposed to the deployment of EU troops in Ukraine as a peacekeeping force.
For Kiev, the prospect of regaining lost territories would be a “difficult task.” Mr Trump also said a deal with Ukraine on natural resources could be signed during President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Washington next week.
The US president said the US was interested in Russia's "huge reserves" of rare earth metals and other "very valuable resources". Joint economic projects between the US and Russia were in the interest of long-term peace.
