President Trump announces plans to send Patriots to Ukraine
President Trump said the US will send more Patriot systems to Ukraine, but NATO and the EU will bear the cost of that aid.
According to RIA Novosti on July 14, President Donald Trump told reporters on his way back to Washington from New Jersey that the US will send Patriot air defense missile systems to Ukraine.
"We're going to send them the Patriots they need," Trump said.
According to the White House owner, Washington will send Kiev various types of military equipment, but Ukraine will have to pay “100% of the cost”.
Mr. Trump said that this issue will be discussed at a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Washington on July 14. At the same time, the US leader once again criticized European countries for spending significantly less than the US in supporting Kiev, emphasizing that the EU “will reimburse the US for the cost” of sending aid to Ukraine.
Asked if he still planned to send 10 Patriot interceptor missiles to Kiev, President Trump said he "hasn't decided on the number yet."
"But they will get some missiles because they need protection. The European Union will pay for them. We don't pay anything, but we will send them. For us, it's just business, and we will send them Patriots," the White House chief added.
At the same time, President Trump expressed disappointment with the progress in resolving the conflict, adding that he had heard only “nice words” from Russian leaders.
The US President told NBC News on July 11 that he would make an important announcement about Russia on Monday (July 14) but did not disclose the content.
