"We have adopted a difficult decision from a moral point of view, but useful from the point of view of the country's defense. Under martial law, combatants, Ukrainians with real combat experience, will be released and they will be able to atone for their sins in the hottest spots of the war. Sanctions have also been lifted for some participants in anti-terrorist operations. The key point now is defense," Zelensky said in his speech.
Earlier, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said that about 18,000 machine guns had been distributed to the people of Kiev. Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine passed a bill on the right to use firearms for civilian use, but not for handguns. The bill allows the use of civilian firearms to protect life, health and property in a state of defensive or emergency need.
