Venezuelan president flees as protesters chase him
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was chased and surrounded by a crowd of angry protesters while visiting Margarita Island.
According to the Telegraph, videos recording the scene on the evening of September 2 were posted by Venezuelan news sites and are spreading on social networks.
In it, Mr. Maduro is seen jogging among a boisterous crowd that is shouting, banging pots and pans and cursing.
Richard Fermin, the opposition mayor of Asuncion, the island's capital, accused the Venezuelan president of "acting violently" toward a woman protester, allegedly grabbing a pot from her hand.
The Venezuelan government has yet to comment on the images. A human rights organization in the country said 20 people were arrested following the incident.
Hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans poured into the streets of Asuncion in the middle of the week to demand that the government hold a referendum against Mr. Maduro.
