Speaking to a crowd of supporters participating in a May Day march in the capital Caracas, Maduro stressed: "If one day we wake up and hear news that a small group wants to use weapons, everyone needs to take to the streets and defend democracy and freedom. Do not hesitate for even a second."

President Maduro also pledged that in the near future, he would provide evidence of the involvement of some individuals in the coup plot on April 30. Notably, the Venezuelan leader said that he had read a European media article claiming that US National Security Advisor John Bolton led the recent coup and had contacted the governments of several other Latin American countries on this issue.

"I am asking the United States to investigate John Bolton's illegal activities and his attempts to overthrow the government in relation to Venezuela's democracy," Maduro said. President Maduro reaffirmed his loyalty to the Venezuelan people and called on them to be loyal to him.

In addition, President Maduro rejected accusations by US officials that a group of high-ranking Venezuelan officials had engaged in dialogue with the Washington administration to allow the coup to take place, calling these accusations lies./.
