Warning of a strikeCold WarUN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on China and the United States to improve their relationship before the problems between the two powers have a profound impact on the world. Opening the discussion, Mr. Antonio Guterres expressed his concern: "I fear that our world is moving towards two different economic groups, two different rules of trade, finance and technology, two different approaches to the development of artificial intelligence (AI) - and finally two different military and geopolitical strategies. This will lead to "trouble" and "much more unpredictability than the Cold War".
Mr. Antonio Guterres also said that to restore trust and inspire hope, we need dialogue and understanding. In his speech, the UN Secretary-General called for equitable distribution of Covid-19 vaccines: "Most of the world's wealthy people have been vaccinated. More than 90% of Africans are still waiting for their first dose. This is a moral indictment of the world. While we have passed the scientific test, the moral test is still very low."
Mr. Antonio Guterres also emphasized the alarm bell of climate change, calling on the world to act before it is too late.
