Today, after arriving in Vietnam, UN Secretary-General António Guterres is expected to visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. After the official welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace, there will be an official meeting between the UN Secretary-General and Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

On the afternoon of October 21, Mr. António Guterres will attend the 45th Anniversary of Vietnam-United Nations, greet General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; meet with National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue; and meet with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

During his official visit to Vietnam, Mr. António Guterres will visit the General Department of Hydrometeorology; visit the Green One UN House in Vietnam; visit the Imperial Citadel/Historical Museum; attend a tea party hosted by the President. He will also spend time talking with representatives of Vietnamese youth and students.

The visit of the UN Secretary-General demonstrates a strong message about the UN's appreciation for the Vietnam-UN partnership over the past 45 years.

The visit also affirmed that Vietnam is one of the indispensable members of the United Nations, has been and will make meaningful contributions to the common work of the United Nations in solving global challenges, for peace and development in the world.

On September 20, 1977, Vietnam officially joined the United Nations, an organization that plays a central role in building international law, maintaining peace, preventing conflicts and responding to global challenges.

Over the past 40 years, the Vietnam-United Nations cooperation has contributed to protecting and promoting Vietnam's national interests, especially maintaining and consolidating a peaceful, secure and favorable environment for national development; promoting deeper international integration and contributing to enhancing Vietnam's position and image in the international arena; deepening Vietnam's relations with other countries, key partners and friends, and mobilizing an important resource to serve the country's development.

On the other hand, Vietnam has proactively and increasingly substantially contributed to the activities of the United Nations, including promoting the role of the United Nations and multilateralism, promoting respect for the United Nations Charter, international law, equal relations, development cooperation between countries and the right to self-determination of peoples, opposing acts of oppression, invasion, and unilateral embargoes in international relations; participating in the discussion and adoption of many important resolutions and declarations of the United Nations on development cooperation, disarmament, anti-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, anti-terrorism, and ensuring human rights./.
