According to Channel NewsAsia, the top 20 names (in alphabetical order) in the world in terms of safety are: Air New Zealand, Alaska Airlines, All Nippon Airways, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, EVA Air, Finnair, Hawaiian Airlines, Japan Airlines, KLM, Lufthansa, Qantas, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Scandinavian Airline System, Singapore Airlines, Swiss, Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Australia.

“These airlines are industry leaders in terms of safety, innovation and new aircraft,” said AirlineRatings.com Director Geoffrey Thomas. “Qantas is a leader in most aspects of its operations, operating safely for 60 years and without a fatality in the jet era. But Qantas is not alone in safety. Long-established carriers like Hawaiian and Finnair also have impeccable records in the jet era.”
In addition, AirlineRatings.com also ranked the 10 safest low-cost airlines in the world, which are: Aer Lingus, Flybe, Frontier, HK Express, Jetblue, Jetstar Australia, Thomas Cook, Virgin America, Vueling and Westjet.
AirlineRatings.com says it rates airlines based on a number of factors that affect safety, including serious incident records and fleet age.
“All airlines have problems every day, and many of them are aircraft manufacturing problems, not airline operational problems. We define a good airline by how its crews handle safety incidents. The top 20 airlines are always at the forefront of innovation, operate flawlessly, and operate many modern aircraft such as the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787.” AirlineRatings.com was launched in June 2013, rating the safety and service of 409 airlines worldwide.
