West Brom went into the game against Tottenham bottom of the table and would follow Stoke into relegation if they failed to pick up three points. Against their top-four opponents, West Brom got what they wanted with a late goal from Tottenham academy graduate Jake Livermore.
The 28-year-old midfielder's precious goal kept West Brom's hopes alive despite them being relegated on Saturday if Southampton beat Everton in the late game.
Meanwhile, Tottenham missed the chance to overtake Liverpool into third place. The London team is still one point behind Liverpool, but more worryingly, they could be just two points ahead of Chelsea after this round.
Chelsea host Liverpool on Sunday and if the home side win then Tottenham will have to fight to keep their top four place in their final two games.

Tottenham had their best chance of taking the lead in the first half but Harry Kane's header was denied by goalkeeper Ben Foster. The England striker was unlucky in the match and almost scored an own goal in the second half if Hugo Lloris had not been alert when Kane headed in defensively.
In the remaining two matches, Tottenham will play a make-up match against Newcastle and meet Leicester in round 38, both at home at Wembley. This is an advantage for them to complete the goal of finishing in the top 4 after shooting themselves in the foot with a surprising defeat against West Brom.
Meanwhile, West Brom have shown a remarkable effort that may not help them stay in the Premier League next season. Since Darren Moore took over as interim coach, West Brom have gone from being 10 points from safety after six games to now being just two points.
If they are not relegated until round 38, West Brom will have a chance to make a surprise because they only have to visit Crystal Palace, a team that has just won the right to stay in the league and has no more goals.
