Tottenham patch up defensive hole with 25 million euro "bargain"
In an effort to make a strong comeback in the second phase of the 2024/25 season, Tottenham have reached an agreement to sign centre-back Kevin Danso from Lens for a fee of 25 million euros.

The 26-year-old has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with the London club. Danso was close to joining Wolves but changed his mind due to Tottenham's determination, especially when the club is in a crisis due to too many injuries.
Danso's arrival is seen as a necessary solution to Tottenham's troubled defence, especially as coach Postecoglou is forced to look for reinforcements amid a lack of quality options in the transfer market. Kevin Danso has experience playing in the Premier League with Southampton in the 2019/20 season, and has also shown progress at Lens over the years, playing a total of 128 matches and being named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year in 2022/23. Before acquiring Danso, Tottenham had failed to sign young striker Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich, a big regret for the London team.
Despite the timely additions to the defence, Tottenham are facing a poor run of form in the Premier League, winning just one of their last 11 games, leaving them in 16th place in the table and increasingly under criticism. With the pressure mounting, Coach Postecoglou needs to get the team back on track quickly, or he could leave the hot seat at any moment. Danso's arrival is essential, but he alone is not enough; it is an improvement across the team.
