Toyota Wigo is about to come to Vietnam, threatening the Korean car 'empire'

October 6, 2017 14:48

The urban car segment in Vietnam with the presence of Korean brands including Hyundai Grand i10 and KIA Morning will soon have a huge competitor from Toyota, the Wigo. However, the competitive advantage of the Japanese car model is also limited because while the two Korean competitors assemble domestically, the Wigo is imported completely from Indonesia.

First appeared in Vietnam last August, at the Vietnam Motorshow 2017, but the car for the Asian region was born in 2012 with the goal of targeting young customers buying a car for the first time.

Nhiều khả năng phiên bản có mặt tại Việt Nam của chiếc Toyota Wigo sẽ sử dụng động cơ 1.2 L
Most likely the version available in Vietnam of the Toyota Wigo will use a 1.2 L engine.

In the ASEAN region, Toyota Wigo has two engine options; the first is the KR-FE 1.0L I3 petrol engine with 65 horsepower and 89 Nm of torque - this version is currently available in the Philippines and Indonesia, the higher-end version uses a 1.2L dual I4 engine with 88 horsepower and 108 Nm of torque (this version is only available in Indonesia under the name Toyota Agya). Both of these engine versions of the Toyota Wigo come with a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-speed automatic transmission (to reduce costs compared to the CVT transmission).

The Toyota Wigo has dimensions of 3,600 x 1,600 x 1,520 mm (length, width, height), equivalent to the size of the KIA Morning, so it is shorter than the Hyundai Grand i10 (dimensions of 3,765 x 1,660 x 1,520 mm) but is still designed with 5 seats.

Some notable features of the Toyota Wido are the ABS anti-lock braking system, front seat airbags, and an entertainment system with Bluetooth connectivity...

In the Philippines, the Toyota Wigo (1.0L version) has a starting price of 526,000 - 599,000 pesos (equivalent to 234 - 266 million VND), while in Indonesia this car (1.2L version) is sold for 132 - 152 million rupees (equivalent to 222 - 256 million VND).

In Vietnam, the two Korean competitors of this car are currently priced from 340 - 435 million VND for the Hyundai Grand i10 (including both sedan and hatchback versions), and 310 - 397 million VND for the KIA Morning model (including both 1.0L and 1.2L versions).
