Vinh City is renovating its traffic light system and removing the "red light allows straight ahead" signs.

The intersections of Ho Tung Mau - Nguyen Van Cu and Truong Thi - An Duong Vuong streets are vital traffic junctions in Vinh City. Located in the city center, these roads are home to numerous government offices, departments, and businesses, resulting in frequent traffic congestion.

In 2021, to reduce traffic congestion, Vinh City put up signs."You can go straight on a red light."at the traffic lights at these points. This has sparked diverse opinions from the public. However, the majority of people agree because after the signs were posted, traffic flow at these points has been smoother, and congestion has significantly decreased.

However, many argue that allowing vehicles to proceed straight while pedestrians cross at the same time as a red light causes anxiety and insecurity for pedestrians, especially during peak hours. Furthermore, despite the signs, many drivers still stop at red lights out of habit, ignoring the signs, particularly those traveling from the districts to Vinh City. As a result, vehicles behind honk loudly to urge those in front to move, causing chaos and localized traffic congestion.

Following numerous comments and suggestions, to date,Vinh CityThe authorities have directed Vinh Urban Infrastructure Management and Development Joint Stock Company to remove the "Red light allows going straight" signs and renovate the traffic light system at these two locations. Specifically, the unit has replaced the signs with green arrow signals, which will be illuminated simultaneously with the red light, so that people know they are still allowed to go straight even when the light is red.

According to observations, since switching from traffic signs to traffic lights, traffic at these points has been maintained stably, resolving congestion while ensuring the safety of pedestrians passing through.
