Vinh City: Many types of mobile steps still occupy the sidewalk

(Baonghean.vn) - Vinh City is in the peak period of sidewalk clearance, but on many streets, people have made their own mobile steps and placed them in front of their houses, occupying the sidewalk.

For convenience in daily life, many households have made their own mobile steps using iron frames or other objects placed in front of the entrance to go up and down.

However, when installing iron frames or replacement items for steps and fixed access roads, the residents do not shorten them but leave them right on the sidewalk, causing loss of urban aesthetics and the pedestrian corridor is still occupied.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Hung in Trung My block, Le Mao ward, Vinh city said indignantly: "Responding to the city's sidewalk clearance campaign, my family removed the steps. Because the house is high, I used a wooden plank to make it easier to move the car up and down. Then I put the wooden plank in the house to keep the street clear and the sidewalk airy. Currently, I see many families on Ngu Hai street leaving all kinds of mobile steps on the sidewalk day after day, which looks very ugly and hinders pedestrians."

On Nguyen Van Cu Street, hundreds of steps made of iron frames or soil sacks, planks, bricks and stones... are placed right on the sidewalk, making the street look shabby and sloppy. In many sections, people let the steps encroach on the sidewalk, occupying almost the entire sidewalk. Due to being stored and fixed, the sidewalk space is narrowed as before the clearance.

Mr. Nguyen Van - Binh Phuc block, Hung Phuc ward said: "Because the house is high, I have to make an iron frame to make it easier to go up and down. The iron frame is quite heavy, it is inconvenient to move in and out, so I always leave it in front of the house door."

Faced with the regulation to remove steps encroaching on the sidewalk, most of Vinh City residents complied and removed them themselves. However, after 1 month of sidewalk clearance, many shortcomings in handling urban order have been revealed.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thang - Head of the Urban Management Department of Vinh City said: "Currently, there are no specific regulations for making homemade steps and ramps. But for convenience, people can make mobile steps and ramps. After use, they must be tucked away inside the house. If they are left on the sidewalk for days and months without cleaning up, the authorities will fine and confiscate these homemade steps."
