(Baonghean.vn) - This morning, January 6th, the People's Committee of Vinh City - Traffic Safety Committee held a conference to summarize the work on ensuring traffic safety and urban order in 2011 and to implement tasks for 2012.

In 2011, the city witnessed numerous political events and cultural and sports activities that attracted a large number of people and vehicles. The city implemented various measures to ensure traffic safety and public order, particularly focusing on the peak period of the third quarter of 2011 and the Traffic Safety Month. Efforts continued to be intensified in the construction, renovation, and upgrading of roads, sidewalks, water supply and drainage systems, lighting systems, and cultural and public works. However, the problem of young people recklessly driving motorcycles on roads around Ho Chi Minh Square during holidays and weekends persists, as does the issue of cars stopping and parking illegally, causing traffic congestion and public dissatisfaction.

The City People's Committee has focused on directing all levels, sectors, and mass organizations to implement traffic safety and urban order in a synchronized and effective manner, especially through plans, directives, and implementation strategies to ensure traffic safety throughout the city. Simultaneously, it has implemented various propaganda activities to raise public awareness of law compliance; and intensified efforts to clear encroachments on traffic safety corridors along key routes, markets, public areas, and public spaces.

Urban beautification and management were also carried out very seriously. Infrastructure serving traffic safety, such as traffic signs, traffic lights, and road markings, were always maintained and upgraded promptly. Wards and communes continued to implement the construction of traffic infrastructure, sidewalks, and drainage ditches. In conjunction with the 2011 Lunar New Year (Year of the Rabbit), the City People's Committee directed the strengthening of traffic safety and urban order to ensure good service for the people's travel, daily life, and entertainment needs, especially in key areas. Intensive patrol and control campaigns were implemented to strictly handle violations of traffic safety and public order. As a result, 48,167 cases were fined, collecting over 12.2 billion VND for the state treasury. Authorities recorded 26 cases of reckless driving by motorcyclists, seized 239 motorcycles, and are investigating the origins of 62 stolen motorcycles…

On this occasion, the city also organized the implementation of key tasks for the coming year 2012, including continuing to implement resolutions, tasks, plans, and directives from higher levels. The responsibility of state management in ensuring traffic safety and urban order will be enhanced, considering this a central task in formulating resolutions of the Party Committee, plans of units, and the People's Committees of wards and communes. The city will also intensify the dissemination of laws on traffic safety and urban order to all citizens, so that everyone understands and complies with them, with the goal of building a civilized, clean, and beautiful Vinh City.

On this occasion, many individuals and groups were also commended for their outstanding achievements in ensuring traffic safety and urban order over the past year; the City People's Committee also reorganized the Traffic Safety Committee with 21 members and a support staff of 8 people, aiming to help the Traffic Safety Committee operate more effectively in the coming year.
