Xinhua News Agency on June 16 quoted an announcement by the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council of China saying that the country will impose an additional 25% tax on 659 US export items worth 50 billion USD.

Tariffs on $34 billion worth of US goods, including agricultural products, automobiles and seafood, are expected to take effect from July 6. Tariffs on other US goods will also be announced later.
China has responded strongly, pledging to “immediately” retaliate against US goods, after US media reported that US President Donald Trump had just approved a new package of tariffs on $50 billion worth of Chinese goods. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang stressed that China will quickly take steps to protect its economy if the new US tariffs harm its interests.
