Tariffs on $34 billion worth of US goods, including agricultural products, automobiles and seafood, are expected to take effect from July 6. Tariffs on other US goods will also be announced later.
China has responded strongly, vowing to “immediately” retaliate against US goods, after US media reported that US President Donald Trump had approved new tariffs on $50 billion worth of Chinese goods. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang stressed that China would take swift steps to protect its economy if the new US tariffs harmed its interests.
