Paying the price with an indefinite prison sentence for receiving secret cargo
(Baonghean.vn) - Nguyen Van Thao agreed to transport more than 1kg of drugs for a subject, only to have to bury his life behind bars.
On March 24, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Nguyen Van Thao (40 years old), residing in Cong Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, for the crime of "“Illegal transportation of drugs”.
The case file shows that because they knew each other before, on the afternoon of August 12, 2020, Mr. Trieu called Thao and said he would go to Muong Xen town to get drugs from a man named Thanh. Thao agreed.

The next morning, Thao went to see Thanh but because the distance was far, Thao did not dare to accept the drugs.
Knowing the story, Trieu called Thao and said that Thanh would send drugs by bus to Yen Thanh district. At that time, Thao only had to receive and bring the drugs home to hide, then send them to Trieu. Hearing that, Thao agreed.
Thanh then called Thao to inform her of the time and place to receive the “goods”. That same evening, Thao went to National Highway 7A, through Cong Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District, to receive a package containing more than 1kg of drugs, but was arrested by the police.
At the trial, defendant Thao confessed honestly, expressed remorse, and asked for a lighter sentence to start a new life.
The defendant presented the fact that his father participated in the resistance war and was awarded the First Class Resistance Medal to ask the court to reduce his sentence.
Considering the case as a whole, the People's Court sentenced Nguyen Van Thao to life in prison for illegally transporting drugs.
As for the men named Trieu and Thanh, because the defendants do not know their background or specific addresses, there is no basis for investigation and handling.
