The price paid by a greedy person when withdrawing money at an ATM

Seeing that the previous transaction's ATM card still had a lot of money inside, Hien had the idea of ​​appropriating it by transferring more than 31 million VND to his account.

On April 20, Hanoi People's Court brought Nguyen Quang Hien (35 years old, in Long Bien district) to the appeal trial for the crime of using digital devices to commit property appropriation.

According to the first instance verdict, in mid-December 2015, Mr. Minh (in Long Bien district) went to an ATM of a large bank in Hanoi to withdraw money. After receiving the money, Mr. Minh left without completing the transaction to get his ATM card back from the machine.

Just then, Nguyen Quang Hien appeared. Seeing the words “Do you want to continue the transaction?” on the ATM screen, Hien pressed the “Yes” button.

Checking Minh's card account balance and seeing 32 million VND, Hien had the idea of ​​appropriating the money by transferring more than 31 million VND to his own account. After finishing, he destroyed Minh's ATM card and returned home to celebrate Tet.

For the above actions, at the end of December 2016, Hien was sentenced by the court of first instance to 12 months in prison for the crime of using digital devices to commit property appropriation. Realizing that the above first instance sentence was too harsh, the defendant appealed to change it to a suspended sentence and was accepted by the appellate court after deliberation.
