Sweet fruit waiting to be sold on Tet holiday
(Baonghean.vn) - In the days leading up to Tet, farmers everywhere are excitedly waiting for the harvest of products that, although not rare, bring joy and income to their families.
In the last days of the year, we went up National Highway 7 to Con Cuong, Tuong Duong, Ky Son districts... the bunches of royal bananas were full and waiting for harvest.
Mr. Tran Dinh Loi, Quyet Tien village, Chi Khe commune, Con Cuong district has 12 bunches of royal bananas. On the 15th day of the 12th lunar month, some traders at the market in Con Cuong town came to deposit money. Counting the bunches to calculate the price, a small bunch costs 70 thousand VND, a big and beautiful bunch costs 100 thousand VND, and even some single bunches cost up to 150 thousand VND.

Royal bananas are purchased by traders in Xiangyang. |
Along Highway 7, we occasionally see people riding motorbikes carrying bunches of bananas that have just been cut from the trees. Ms. Long, a trader from Dien Chau who came to buy bananas in Tam Quang commune (Tuong Duong), said: Today she has chosen to buy 6 bunches of bananas, each bunch costs from 250,000 to 300,000 VND, not much higher than last year. According to Ms. Long, the bananas are bought in bunches, and only separated into bunches when it is time to sell. She sells the big, beautiful bunches to traders in the city, and the small bunches are sold at rural markets.
The most royal bananas are probably in Pieng Pho village, Pha Danh commune, Ky Son district. Mr. Lo Van Xuan - Head of Pieng Pho village said: The village has 52 households, of which 50% grow bananas. The area of bananas grown in the village has reached nearly 12 hectares. By December 14, traders had not yet come to buy, so people did not know the selling price. Like last year's Tet, on December 20 to 22, traders set the price at 18,000 VND/kg, 4-5 times higher than normal months of the year. Because bananas are used for incense, harvesters must also be careful not to let the banana bunches fall to the ground, and keep the banana bunches from breaking or being crushed. It is expected that this Tet, people will harvest about 5 tons of banana bunches.

This year, there are more apples, and at this time the apples are ripening. I choose ripe ones to pick and sell to passersby on Highway 7, selling for 35,000 VND/kg. The days close to Tet, the amount of apples consumed is much larger, because traders from all over come to buy, so the price will be higher.

Red sugarcane in Dong Thanh commune is ready to be sold on the Tet market. |
In Dong Thanh (Yen Thanh), there are many other products that are being well taken care of by the people to sell during the upcoming Tet holiday. Those are red sugarcane and free-range chickens. According to Mr. Nguyen Cong Ly - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, it is expected that this Tet holiday, Dong Thanh will supply the market with about 40 tons of oranges (the whole commune currently has 82 hectares of oranges, of which 25 hectares have produced fruit) and tens of thousands of red sugarcane trees. Red sugarcane trees have been planted by the people for 2 years now, with much higher yields than growing raw sugarcane. The whole commune currently has more than 3 hectares of red sugarcane, concentrated in Dong Trung and Dong Tro hamlets. During Tet, people mainly sell them in rural areas and towns at prices ranging from 7,000 to 10,000 VND/tree.
Mr. Thai Huu Nhan's house in Dong Trung hamlet grows about 3 sao of red sugarcane. Mr. Nhan said: Red sugarcane is mainly grown to sell to people for Tet, so care must be taken to ensure that the sugarcane grows well. During the care process, you must use a tree to tie the sugarcane to stand straight, otherwise the sugarcane will fall, bend, and be difficult to sell. This year's Tet, his family is expected to earn tens of millions of dong from selling red sugarcane.
