Anh Son Plant Protection and Cultivation Station accompanies farmers
(Baonghean.vn) - Poor infrastructure, complex mountainous terrain, and a variety of crops and varieties make pest management difficult. However, the Anh Son District Plant Protection and Cultivation Station strives to fulfill its mission, protect crops, and improve crop and season productivity for farmers.
From the beginning of 2017 until now, the weather conditions have been relatively favorable, especially in the spring crop, the crops have grown well. However, this is also a favorable condition for pests to arise and cause damage. Based on the investigation and detection of diseases, the Station has advised the District People's Committee to issue an official dispatch to direct all levels, sectors and localities to organize and direct pest control.
Thanks to that, the prevention and control of 17.5/18 hectares of rice infected with brown planthoppers, 226/390 hectares of rice infected with moderate and severe brown planthoppers, compared to 2016, the infected area increased (176 hectares), spraying for 45/62 hectares of rice infected with rice blast. In addition, the station coordinated with farmers to significantly reduce the risk of damage to leaf rollers, stem borers, stink bugs, golden apple snails and other pests on corn, sugarcane, and forestry plants.

The station coordinated with the agricultural extension station and seed suppliers to monitor and evaluate the trial production of HN6, Kim Cuong 111 and VT505 rice models, with a scale of 1 hectare/model, and seed sowing and local production models, with a yield of 55-56 quintals/ha, with VT505 rice alone reaching 70-72 quintals/ha. In particular, the district coordinated with Vinh Hoa Science and Technology Co., Ltd. to produce 50 hectares of large-scale AC5 rice fields in Duc Son commune, with a yield of 60-64 quintals/ha, earning 4-4.5 million VND/ha.
The science and technology transfer work has implemented an SRI technical class, an ICM class in Cam Son, and a field workshop on the SRI program in Vinh Son.The models aim to help farmers impart experience and techniques in planting, caring for and preventing pests and diseases on crops, and guide farmers on how to use plant protection drugs. On that basis, create conditions to deploy the models in the summer-autumn crop and replicate the models.

In the 2017 summer-autumn rice crop, Anh Son planted nearly 1,600 hectares, in the rooting - green recovery stage, golden apple snails emerged and caused damage at high altitudes, 3 - 5 snails/m.2local 15 - 20 individuals/m2 with an infected area of 40 hectares, typically in Binh Son and Khai Son communes. In addition, over 50 hectares of raw sugarcane are in the stage of growing and developing well, but white fiber aphids appear early, causing damage and spreading quickly, with an average rate of 1 - 3%, high in places 10 - 15% locally 20 - 30% in Thanh Son, Hung Son, Dinh Son, Khai Son, etc.
The district's Plant Protection and Cultivation Station has issued an official dispatch to the district People's Committee and two urgent notices to the People's Committees of localities to strengthen pest control solutions. Accordingly, the Station recommends that people use manual farming methods such as early plowing, sprinkling lime powder, launching a campaign to destroy golden apple snails in the area, catching snails and collecting egg nests for destruction. Chemical measures can use drugs such as Padan 95SP, VT - DAX sprayed on fields with 3 - 5 cm of water.

For white cotton aphids on sugarcane, communes coordinate with Song Lam sugarcane agricultural officers to investigate, monitor, and prune old leaves to create conditions for the fields to be airy. Detect, cut, and destroy aphid nests to limit the source of occurrence and spread. Only spray on areas with a white cotton aphid infestation rate of 20-30% or more with one of the following pesticides: Victory 300EC, Goldra 250WG, Bassa 50EC, Anboom 40EC.
