Two-headed python, four-legged chicken, monkey-faced bird,... 'unique' in Vietnam

Dinosaur fish, monkey-faced birds, two-headed pythons,… are just a small part of the strange creatures that have appeared in Vietnam. Among them, there are species that will surely surprise you because you completely did not expect their existence.

Two-headed python

Recently, the online community was abuzz with the news of a two-headed python appearing at a reptile store in Kham Thien (Hanoi). Mr. Mac Hung - the owner of the python confirmed that he and three other brothers had completed the legal paperwork to ensure its origin and personally brought the two-headed python from Cambodia to Vietnam.

This python is identified as a male, 1 year old, of the Burmese python breed (called the ground python in Vietnam). This python is special in that it has two heads and two separate bodies, so its ability to move is limited. Its digestive system, heart, and stomach are also independent. They only share the tail, genitals, and anus.

The python is about 90cm long and weighs about 2kg (shorter than a normal python). “Their main food is white mice. On average, they only eat about 3 to 4 times a month, about 4 mice each time,” added Mr. Hung, the owner of the strange python.

The two-headed python originated from Burma.

The rate of two-headed pythons and snakes appearing in the world is not rare, but usually they only have one body. This two-headed python has two bodies, so it has received great attention from reptile enthusiasts in the area. Discussing the origin of this fighting rooster, Mr. Trung said: "Once when I went to Tan Trao (Tuyen Quang), I saw a chicken with 4 legs in a local's flock. I thought it was interesting, so I bought it as a pet and raised it."

After a long time of raising, the rooster has now grown up, crows loudly every day and has a very special crowing voice. Not only that, recently Mr. Trung let the fighting rooster try to "compete" with other normal fighting roosters, and surprisingly, the 4-legged rooster always had beautiful and sharp attacks. That is why many people in the fighting rooster enthusiast community came to visit, admire and intended to sell, offering up to 50 million VND, but Mr. Trung absolutely did not agree.

Mr. Trung said that although he is quite busy with his business every day, he still spends a lot of time taking care of and raising his beloved chicken. "Currently, I try to take good care of the chicken, feed it well, vaccinate it, give it regular medicine, and especially sometimes feed it beef and lean pork to improve its health and resistance to disease," he shared about the process of taking care of his "pet".

6 horn 4 leg dinosaur fish

"Monster" needlefish nearly 4m long

On the afternoon of April 16, Mr. Pham Xuan Chien and Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Duy (living in Quynh Phuong ward, Nghe An) were playing in the Quynh Phuong beach area when they suddenly discovered a live dragon fish drifting close to the shore. Because the fish was large and very long, it took about 10 minutes for the two of them to successfully catch and bring the fish to shore.

At the head of this fish there are long whiskers from 50cm to 1m. Because of the long whiskers and long fins like the legendary dragon, people often call this type of fish dragon fish or dragon fish.

According to information from local fishermen, the dragon fish that Mr. Chien caught was originally mentioned in folklore as a "sea monster". Through studying some scientific documents, the "appearance" of this fish is similar to the oarfish, scientifically named Regalecus glesne, discovered in 1772 by a Norwegian biologist.

Monkey-faced bird in Tra Vinh

A few years ago, people in Duyen Hai district (Tra Vinh province) were in an uproar because Mr. Truong Thanh Tam (born in 1983, Dinh Cu hamlet, Long Khanh commune, Duyen Hai district) caught a strange bird that had never been seen before. This bird has a monkey-like face, long beard and makes a "hissing" sound when someone approaches.

Mr. Tam said that while working on a shrimp pond in a sparse forest, he discovered a newly hatched bird's nest on a dried mangrove tree. This bird's nest contained 5 very strange birds about 10 to 15 days old. The baby birds had yellow feathers, they could walk, their wingspan was more than 0.8 m, each weighing 500-600 grams.

According to Vietnamese ornithologist - Professor Vo Quy - this is a barn owl, scientific name Tytoalba, this species is the most widely distributed in the owl family and is one of the most common species of birds. This bird species is quite widely distributed, they can live even in deserts, forests, in temperate and tropical climates.
