(Baonghean) - Having twice accepted disadvantages to stay with his hometown team, Dinh Dong deserves praise from the fans. But more importantly, as a key player in the defense, Dinh Dong has quietly strived to help SLNA stand firm and get off to a good start in the last two matches.

As one of the most promising young talents in Nghe An football, his path to success has been challenging.

The success of this versatile player was fraught with difficulties. After a year-long suspension for negative behavior while playing for Sara Thanh Vinh Club, Dinh Dong returned to the V.League 2008 with TCDK.SLNA and played quite well. However, towards the end of the season, Dinh Dong was again involved in a match-fixing scandal at Hang Day Stadium against home team HN.ACB and was subsequently suspended for the remainder of the season.

Faced with public criticism, Dinh Dong fell into crisis and at one point considered retiring.

However, encouraged by family and friends, Dinh Dong was determined to start over. The 2009 V.League season was considered a success for Dinh Dong, as he was a strategic asset in coach Nguyen Van Thinh's system. His versatility gave the SLNA coaching staff many options. Dinh Dong could play well as a defender, midfielder, or even an attacking midfielder. By the end of the 2009 V.League season, the SLNA defender had scored 5 goals, contributing significantly to the team's bronze medal win.

Along with several other players from SLNA, Dinh Dong also yearned to be part of the Vietnam U23 team participating in the 25th SEA Games. However, the path to Laos was not easy for this defender, despite his best efforts and hopes of securing a last-minute spot. Within two months, Dinh Dong played for three different U21 teams: SLNA, SHB Da Nang, and the Vietnam U21 team. Despite his best efforts and positive impressions, the 22-year-old was not included in Coach Calisto's "preferred squad." Only when the Vietnam U23 defense faced problems before departing for Laos was Dinh Dong finally called up.

Although he arrived at My Dinh Stadium two months later than his teammates in the Vietnam U23 team, Dinh Dong, with the experience he had accumulated playing for SLNA over several seasons in the V.League, still managed to make an impression on the Portuguese coach. As an attacking-minded defender, Dinh Dong brought a new dimension to the Vietnam U23 team's tactical system at that tournament. The wing attacks of Calisto's team proved very effective, and Dinh Dong's contribution on the left flank was significant.

Dinh Dong was in the starting lineup for 5 out of 6 matches of the Vietnam U23 team at the 25th SEA Games. The match against Singapore was considered his most successful. His Portuguese coach himself recognized him as a promising new discovery. In fact, his former left-back, Chu Ngoc Anh, only played a supporting role when Dinh Dong came on as a substitute. His success at the 25th SEA Games helped Dinh Dong gain more recognition. Furthermore, just before the final match against Malaysia U23, he was included in the Vietnam national team's training camp roster.

It was thought that Coach Calisto only called Dinh Dong up to the national team so that he could gain experience, but unexpectedly, in the match against Lebanon in the 2011 Asian Cup qualifiers, Dinh Dong was named in the starting lineup, alongside other veteran defenders such as Phuoc Tu, Nhu Thanh, and Dinh Luat. Dinh Dong played the full 90 minutes and displayed an extremely impressive performance.

In the following years, Dinh Dong was present at every national team training camp. As a big name, he attracted attention and received many attractive offers, but out of love for his hometown team, Dinh Dong refused them all to stay. In the 2014 season, while people praised young talents like Ngoc Hai and Manh Hung, Dinh Dong quietly persevered. Playing as a left-back, this player born in Anh Son district frustrated countless opposing strikers, contributing significantly to the team's success.

Commenting on Dinh Dong, coach Nguyen Huu Thang said that besides sacrificing his own interests for the club, Dinh Dong is also an irreplaceable pillar in the defense. Quietly and unassumingly, Dinh Dong is a shining example for many to follow.
