Confession of Quang Binh teacher letting student slap friend
According to the 6.2 students, before Nhat, there were about 9-10 students who were slapped for swearing, but not many. Explaining this incident, Ms. Thuy said it was due to anger and pressure from the competition in the class.
Swearing gets slapped
The incident in which Hoang Long Nhat, a 6.2 grade student at Duy Ninh Secondary School, Quang Ninh District, Quang Binh Province, was "instructed" to be slapped in the cheek by his homeroom teacher for swearing has caused public outrage.
According to Nhat, he saw the teacher write on the board "Thanh Hoa Folk Songs", he read the word "Thanh", and Thanh is the mother's name of a classmate. The classmate sitting next to him immediately said he cursed the name of his classmate's parents. "I'll tell the teacher in the third period".
On the afternoon of November 24, speaking to the press, the head of NTPT (born in 1977) said:
“This is a class that does not have good results in both studying and competing. The whole class only has one good student, while the whole school's competition score is often at the bottom of the table.”
According to regulations, students who swear will have their competition points deducted heavily.
To remedy this situation, Ms. T. set a "rule": If any student violates the rule, each student in the class will be slapped 10 times on the cheek. If a student does not slap or does it lightly, the other student will be slapped 10 times in return.
Talking about the incident on November 19, she said:
“That day, when I went to class, I heard students reporting that N. had cursed and insulted the mother of the student next to him. Before that, I had said that anyone who cursed would be slapped by their classmates, so some students in the class slapped Nhat. Nhat swore in pain, so I slapped him and went outside. After that, I also investigated and found out that 23 students had slapped Nhat. I knew that what I did was wrong, so I went to his house to apologize to his family. I was angry and partly because of the pressure of competing.”
Class 6.2 has 27 students. That afternoon, 3 students were absent, so Nhat was slapped 231 times by 23 students and his homeroom teacher.
Will be dealt with seriously
After being slapped, Nhat had to be hospitalized. On November 24, he was discharged and returned to class.
After the incident, Nhat and his family expressed their wish not to continue studying in the class that Ms. Thuy is in charge of.

Regarding the family, Ms. Tran Thi Chuoc, the child's mother, said: After the incident, the teacher also came to meet the family to apologize. The family's point of view is that if the teacher knows she is wrong and promises to correct it, they will sympathize and forgive her. As for how to handle discipline, that is the responsibility of the school as well as related departments.
Regarding the incident of the Japanese student being slapped, Nguyen Trung Nguyen, class monitor of class 6.2, said that the slapping of Japanese student was decided by the teacher beforehand, so the class just did it. Teacher T. was only present for a moment and did not witness the entire class slapping the student.
Nguyen also said that before, there were 9-10 friends who were slapped like that for swearing, but not as many as Nhat.
“There were friends who got slapped before for swearing, but some slapped others, some didn’t. There was a friend who hated Nhat so much that he slapped him so hard that his face was swollen. I don’t want to continue with this kind of punishment anymore,” Nguyen shared.
According to Ms. Pham Thi Le Anh, Principal of Duy Ninh Secondary School, the school has received instructions from the Department of Education and Training of Quang Ninh district to temporarily suspend Ms. T. from work for 15 days and at the same time take appropriate disciplinary measures.
Mr. Dinh Quy Nhan, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Quang Binh province, affirmed that he will handle the incident seriously, ensuring that the above situation will not repeat itself.
Also according to information from this Department, on the afternoon of November 24, the Department will have a meeting to review the incident and will send a report to the Ministry of Education and Training./.
