Equip the Galil ACE with the new generation T40 grenade launcher?
Currently, Vietnam is gradually replacing the traditional AK-47 assault rifle with the Galil ACE 32.
Factory Z111 - General Department of Defense Industry is the place that is operating the production line of advanced Galil ACE assault rifles transferred technology by Israel's IMI Group. In addition to Galil ACE 31/32, we can also manufacture many other products ourselves.
Besides some weapons produced right here such as the STL-15 submachine gun based on the PP-19 Bizon prototype or the STL-A1 improved from the AKM, Factory Z111 also produces the M203 barrel-mounted grenade launcher to integrate with the Galil ACE 32.

Because Vietnam still has a large number of M79 "personal mortars" in its inventory, our soldiers highly appreciate the features of this weapon, and also because it is so familiar in use, we decided to integrate the M203 into the Galil ACE 32 gun.
The M203 has the characteristic of using the same 40 x 46 ammunition size as the M79, which helps facilitate logistics and ensures its technical and functional capabilities are not inferior to the M79 while not requiring the removal of a submachine gunner from the combat formation.
The combination of Galil ACE 32 is said to bring superior power to the infantry squad level firepower of the Vietnam People's Army.

However, the M203 also has some disadvantages such as being a bit bulky, using a separate trigger attached to the lower handguard of the Galil ACE 32, making shooting a bit cumbersome, especially in the lying position.
Therefore, there has been a proposal for Vietnam to research and integrate the T40 grenade launcher into the Galil ACE 32, similar to the type currently equipped for the Marine Corps.

The T-40 also uses 40 x 46 mm ammunition similar to the M203, with an effective range of 150 m and a maximum of 400 m, a bullet velocity of 76 m/s, a well-trained soldier can fire at a rate of 5 - 7 rounds/minute.
The bullets are loaded from the rear, meaning the soldier will grasp the barrel cover and push it forward to open the chamber. When it is time to load the next bullet, the same procedure is followed, but this time the bullet hook will push the shell casing out of the chamber as the barrel is pushed forward.
The most special feature of the T-40 is that it has no trigger, to fire the soldier just needs to use his thumb to press the lever on the left (or right) side. This operation has the advantage of creating better balance and keeping the hand position the same, without having to move to the trigger position like the M203.
According to the assessment, based on the existing production line of Factory Z111, the production of the T40 is not difficult. If in the future the unit boldly manufactures this weapon to integrate with the Galil ACE 32 gun, it will bring more advantages than the current M203 gun, helping to improve the combat capability of "soldier number 5".
