Thailand's SiamSport newspaper did not highly appreciate the performance of coach Park Hang-seo's team: "The new generation of Vietnamese players did not create the same cohesion as last year, when they unexpectedly won the runner-up position at the U23 Asian Cup.

If you pay close attention on the field, the home team's playing style is quite disjointed. Most of the players are inexperienced, so they get nervous in a high-pressure match and playing in front of a large crowd. A typical case is midfielder Thai Quy (number 10) who was substituted early.

Fortunately for U23 Vietnam, they scored a precious goal in extra time. Although the final match was played at My Dinh Stadium, in terms of strength, U23 Vietnam was not much better than U23 Thailand.
