Solemn, joyful spring longevity celebration

(Baonghean.vn) - In the early spring of Binh Than 2016, on February 11 (the 4th day of Tet), many localities held longevity celebrations to show respect to the elderly.

* On the morning of the 4th day of Tet, the blocks and hamlets in Dien Chau district enthusiastically organized the spring longevity celebration for the elderly aged 60 and over.

Hamlet 22, Dien Phu commune organized a longevity celebration for the elderly in the early spring of Binh Than year.

Up to now, Dien Chau district has had 36,000 senior citizens, of which 145 people aged 100 and over were presented with gifts by the President, each worth 500,000-600,000 VND and 5m of silk. In addition, over 3,800 people aged 70-90 were also presented with gifts worth nearly 900 million VND. 39 communes and towns also allocated budgets to support hamlets in organizing longevity celebrations.

The longevity celebrations in the hamlets are solemn and joyful with many cultural activities, sports, physical exercises, table tennis, badminton, poetry recitation... This is also an occasion for children and grandchildren to gather and give meaningful gifts to show gratitude for the birth and upbringing of the elderly.

During the ceremony, 73 old men and women with even ages from 70 to 95 and Vietnamese heroic mother Nguyen Thi Bon, who is 104 years old, received gifts from the People's Committee of Nghi Huong Ward, Cua Lo Town.

*Anh Son TownThere are currently 517 elderly people, including 43 elderly people aged 70 and over who have had their longevity celebrated this year by their locality and family.

Leaders of Anh Son district visited and gave gifts to the elderly who turned 100 years old.

Celebrating longevity has long been a cultural feature of the Anh Son people. From the 4th day of Tet until the 15th day of the first lunar month is the time to celebrate longevity for the elderly.

In early spring 2016, Anh Son district had 1,257 seniors aged 70 or older. Of these, 323 were 70 years old, 274 were 80 years old, 23 were 100 years old, and 48 were over 100 years old. Seniors aged 70 or older will receive gifts and certificates from the state on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2016.
