John Hudson, a leading expert on Shakespeare, living in New York, claims in his book “Shakespeare's Dark Lady” that the author of Shakespeare's most famous plays was actually Amelia Bassano, a dark-haired Jewish woman who lived in London.
According to Mr. Hudson, Ms. Bassano was born in 1569 into a family that had played music for Queen Elizabeth I. As a teenager, she became the lover of Lord Chamberlain Henry Carey, the English theater magnate and patron of a company that performed Shakespeare's plays.
Thus, Mrs. Bassano was well placed and with her skills she had the opportunity to compose plays that to this day are considered by art lovers to be Shakespeare's.
In particular, there is one factor that makes expert Hudson believe that Bassano is the author of those immortal plays: because in those works there are many details with overseas contexts, while Shakespeare only lived in England.
For example, some plays feature detailed descriptions of Italy, where Bassano hails from, as well as detailed descriptions of skills such as falconry, and some even use Hebrew.
Although the above hypothesis is not widely accepted by experts, many theories have long circulated about the true identity of the author of Shakespeare's plays.
Recently, Shakespeare became the headlines of many newspapers after a group of experts said that it is likely that the playwright's skull was stolen more than 200 years ago.
Archaeologists used ground-penetrating radar to peer down into the tomb long believed to be Shakespeare's at Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, and discovered a strange disturbance at the head of the tomb.
Kevin Colls, Head of the archaeological team, confirmed that this discovery matches the story of the theft of Shakespeare's skull that was raised in 1794./.
