According to the Investigation Agency, due to a dispute over a piece of forest land (Ban Luong village, Vu Lang commune, Bac Son district, Lang Son) and the number of trees planted on the forest land, Trieu Van Tien and his uncle Trieu Than Chau (born in 1963, residing in Nhat Hoa commune, Bac Son district) had a conflict. Tien needed to sell the wood to get money to pay off his debt, but Mr. Chau did not agree.
Because he was angry, on April 13, when he saw Mr. Chau performing a ceremony to pray for a good harvest for Tien's brother's family, Trieu Van Tien immediately ran home, grabbed a banana knife, and ran over to slash Mr. Chau's neck and face, causing serious injuries.
