Awarding certificates of recognition of Vietnam Heritage Trees to a population of 56 Sa mu dau trees and 5 Phay Horn trees
(Baonghean.vn) - On November 28, in Que Phong district, the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment awarded the certificate of Vietnam Heritage Tree recognition to a population of 56 sa mu dau trees and 5 phay hon trees in Pu Hoat Nature Reserve.
Attending the event were Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Sinh - Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment, representatives of the Forestry Department, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghe An and leaders of Que Phong district.

In 2013, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee issued Decision 1109/QD-UBND on the establishment of Pu Hoat Nature Reserve. Located in the Western Nghe An Biosphere Reserve, Pu Hoat is considered a typical primeval area with thousands of rare species of animals and plants..
Here is qThe population of sa mu trees, each tree has a diameter of 4-5 meters, a height of 50-70 meters and is hundreds of years old. Que Phong district is also the place that preserves the largest number of large trees compared to the whole country. Therefore, the Management Board of Pu Hoat Nature Reserve has proposed to the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment to recognize the population of 56 sa mu dau trees (in sub-areas 59, 61 in Hanh Dich commune), and 5 phay horn trees (sang vi) in sub-area 59 also in Hanh Dich commune, Que Phong district as heritage trees, and have their own protection regime.

In mid-June 2016, the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment held a meeting, reviewed and concluded that the 56 cajuput trees that the Pu Hoat Nature Reserve Management Board had registered met the standards of Vietnam Heritage Trees.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Danh Hung - Director of Pu Hoat Nature Reserve thanked the support and facilitation of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment. The recognition of the tree population as a heritage tree is not only a joy for the people of Que Phong but also a joy and pride for those working in forest protection here. From there, it creates motivation and higher determination for those working in forest protection.
