Previously, at 10:03 a.m. on February 29, while performing the task of guarding the level crossing at Km273+620 on the North-South railway line, receiving a telegram from the Yen Ly station train operator reporting that train AH1 was requesting passage, expected to pass Yen Ly station at 10:13 a.m., Mr. Kien followed the correct procedures and regulations for closing the barrier.
At that time, the tractor with license plate 37C - 157.47, pulling a trailer 37R - 009.90, driven by Pham Dinh Tuan (born in 1989, residing in Quynh Luu district, Nghe An), was traveling from a residential road crossing the North - South railway (at Cho Sy railway) when it had an accident and got stuck on the railway at a level crossing without barriers. The location of the tractor stuck on the railway was about 120m north of where Mr. Kien was on duty.
Mr. Kien quickly crossed the level crossing and ran towards the truck, while running he signaled for an emergency stop. Thanks to that, the AH1 train stopped in time about 80m away from the position where the first truck was stuck, avoiding a serious traffic accident, ensuring the safety of the train, the tractor and the driver.
