Awarding the National Press Award on Party Building - 2nd Golden Hammer and Sickle Award

On the evening of February 3, at the Hanoi Opera House, the Central Organizing Committee presided over and coordinated with Nhan Dan Newspaper, Communist Magazine, Vietnam Television, and the Vietnam Journalists Association to organize the announcement and awarding ceremony of the 2nd National Press Award on Party Building - Golden Hammer and Sickle Award - 2017.

Attending the ceremony were General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh; Politburo member, President Tran Dai Quang; former President Tran Duc Luong; former National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung; Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Standing Member of the Secretariat, Chairman of the Central Inspection Committee Tran Quoc Vuong; Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Organization Committee Pham Minh Chinh; Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Committee Vo Van Thuong; Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Economic Committee Nguyen Van Binh; Senior Lieutenant General To Lam, Politburo member, Minister of Public Security; Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Tran Thanh Man, and many leaders of ministries, departments and branches.

Launched on February 3, 2017, after more than 9 months of implementation, the Organizing Committee of the Award received 1,986 entries, an increase of 813 entries compared to the first Golden Hammer and Sickle Award. Of these, 1,118 entries were in the print category; 252 were in the electronic category; 158 were in the radio category; 415 were in the television category and 43 were in the photojournalism category.

The works participating in the Award are generally of better quality than in 2016; diverse in genres, rich in themes, reflecting the whole picture of Party building work in all regions and fields... The works focused on reflecting the implementation of the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress and the Central Resolutions, especially the Central Resolutions 4, 5, 6 of the 12th tenure; the content balanced between "building" and "fighting" in the spirit of "using beauty to eliminate ugliness", using positivity to push back negativity.

The works are not only more numerous in quantity, but also improved in quality, diverse in genre, rich in topics, vivid, attractive, refined in expression, and profound in content; both discovering, encouraging, and honoring advanced examples, new models, and good practices, with the spirit of using positivity to push back negativity, while contributing to Party building and rectification, preventing corruption, negativity, and waste, contributing to consolidating and strengthening people's trust in the Party.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Mr. Tran Quoc Vuong emphasized that with thousands of press works participating in the Golden Hammer and Sickle Award, it has contributed to helping millions of readers and listeners understand more correctly and fully about the Party and the work of Party building and rectification in the current situation; strengthening the trust of cadres, party members and people in the Party, especially helping party committees and organizations at all levels and in all sectors see the importance of Party building and rectification work, draw lessons, clearly see the advantages to promote, and the existing limitations to promptly overcome in the process of implementing Party building work.

Mr. Tran Quoc Vuong also said that in the past 2 years, the work of Party building and rectification has had positive changes, achieved many important results, and increased the trust of cadres, party members and people in the Party. Mr. Tran Quoc Vuong affirmed that in that common achievement, the role of the press nationwide has been very positive and important.

Praising and congratulating the authors and collectives with outstanding achievements in winning the 2nd Golden Hammer and Sickle Journalism Award, Mr. Tran Quoc Vuong stated that in 2018, the work of Party building and rectification is not only the task of Party organizations at all levels but also requires the active participation of the entire political system and all classes of people, in which the press plays an important role.

Mr. Tran Quoc Vuong suggested: “In order to effectively participate in Party building, each press agency and each journalist needs to clearly understand the Party's policy on Party building, proactively and actively follow the grassroots reality to promptly reflect the Party building and rectification work in localities and units. On that basis, praise good practices and fight against and criticize shortcomings and violations. Each news item in the press, especially the Party building work, requires intelligence and morality in the face of the issues that arise. Orient each Party member and cadre to maintain the spirit of a communist, truly a shining example in life”.

Mr. Tran Quoc Vuong also requested the Party Committee, the government and the Fatherland Front to closely coordinate and create conditions for the press to propagate the work of Party building and rectification. He requested that press agencies and journalists, with their feelings and responsibility towards the Party and the country, actively participate in the 3rd National Press Award on Party building work - 2018. All for the strength and purity of the Party, so that our Party "is moral and civilized", is both a leader and a loyal servant of the working people.

After the preliminary round, 89 works were selected for the final round, of which 54 best works were selected by the Organizing Committee to award prizes, including: 6 A prizes, 8 B prizes, 15 C prizes and 25 Encouragement prizes. The Organizing Committee also decided to reward 15 agencies with outstanding achievements.

Also at the award ceremony, Mr. Pham Minh Chinh launched the 3rd National Press Award named Golden Hammer and Sickle 2018./.
