Awarding the gold prize for the book series "History of the resistance war against America to save the country"
This morning (April 18) in Hanoi, the Vietnam Publishing Association held the 2014 book awards ceremony.
The 2014 Vietnam Book Awards attracted the participation of 44 domestic publishers, with a total of 479 books. The jury selected a list of 75 winning works, with 42 Good Book awards and 33 Beautiful Book awards.
The three gold prizes in the Good Book category went to the following works: "History of the Resistance War Against America to Save the Country", consisting of 9 volumes by a group of authors from the Vietnam Military History Institute, published by the National Political Publishing House - Truth; The 11-volume book series "Ho Chi Minh with Artists - Artists with Ho Chi Minh" edited by poet Huu Thinh and a group of authors, published by the Writers' Association Publishing House. The book that won the third gold prize for the Good Book was "Captain and Deck Officer's Profession" by author Tieu Van Kinh, published by the Transport Publishing House.

Notably, the book series “History of the Resistance War Against America for National Salvation” has highlighted the correct and wise leadership role of the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, the Central Military Commission… in the process of leading and directing the resistance war against America for national salvation, as well as the great contributions of our army and people in the North and South. The book series also has correct and objective assessments, drawing valuable lessons in leading and conducting the great resistance war.
Dr. Luu Tran Luan, Editorial Board Member, National Political Publishing House said: “Reflecting the sacrifices and losses of our nation is difficult. Meanwhile, researching the opposing side, the US imperialists and the former Republic of Vietnam government, is extremely difficult. We do not have enough materials to fully research such fields of research. We stand on the national interests, scientific responsibilities, and political responsibilities of researchers to reflect in the most honest and scientific way. Up to now, it has reached the level of maturity and won the Gold Award this year, but this is only the beginning.”
The Beautiful Book category has four gold prizes including "Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio" (published by Women's Publishing House, 2013); "Complete Works of Doan Van Cu" (Writers' Association Publishing House, 2013); "Le Tri Dung - Horse Paintings" (Fine Arts Publishing House, 2013) and the 6-volume book series "Who Used to Be a Child" (Tre Publishing House, 2013). In addition, the Organizing Committee also awarded 13 Silver prizes and 14 Bronze prizes in the "Good Book" category, and 9 Silver prizes and 7 Bronze prizes in the "Beautiful Book" category.
Mr. Nguyen Kiem, Vice President of the Vietnam Publishing Association, said that 2014 is the 10th year the Vietnam Publishing Association has organized the Vietnam Book Awards. This is also the 4th year the Association has implemented the Vietnam Book Awards Project, Phase 2 (2011-2015), with the expansion of the award scope to include literature and translated books with different criteria groups.
