(Baonghean.vn) -On the afternoon of April 21st, at the headquarters of the Nghe An Provincial Veterans Association, representatives of the Organizing Committee of the Truong Son Solidarity Program - Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper, in coordination with the Nghe An Veterans Association, held a ceremony to present the Vietnam Record Certificate to Hero of the People's Armed Forces Nguyen Viet Sinh, "The Truong Son liaison soldier who carried goods and led troops for the longest distance."

Mr. Nguyen Viet Sinh is from Xuan Hoa commune, Nam Dan district, Nghe An province.

In 1961, he volunteered to join the Truong Son Army. Nguyen Viet Sinh was assigned the task of carrying supplies to combat units. From 1961 to 1967, Mr. Sinh walked a distance equivalent to the time it takes to circle the Earth carrying supplies. He and his comrades had to cross many streams and mountain passes to deliver goods to the units. The record for the most he carried was 75 kg. On January 1, 1967, President Ho Chi Minh signed a decision awarding him the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces, making him one of the first heroes of Truong Son.

Representatives from the Saigon Giai Phong newspaper and the chairman of the Nghe An Provincial Veterans Association presented the Certificate of Record to hero Nguyen Viet Sinh.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Sinh said emotionally: "My record is very special. Because the people who set it for me were my comrades. Many of those 'referees' sacrificed their lives, and those who survived returned wounded, sick, or affected by Agent Orange; many still live in poverty..." He also thanked the Truong Son Solidarity Program - Saigon Liberation Newspaper and related units for recognizing his efforts, which was even more special because the award he received coincided with April 30th.

On this occasion, the Saigon Liberation Newspaper also presented Mr. Sinh with a 29-inch television. A representative of the newspaper wished hero Nguyen Viet Sinh continued good health, happiness, and that he would always be a shining example for future generations to follow.
