'Vietnam Nobel' awarded to 16 scientific and technological works

Research on the application of science and technology to ensure blood transfusion safety and ensure enough blood reserve for treatment, research on the application of modern techniques of ionizing radiation in diagnosing cancer and some other diseases, research on the design, manufacture, assembly and launching of self-elevating drilling rigs at a depth of 90m, research on crossbreeding new rice varieties with high yield and quality for export...
These are some specific results of 9 exceptionally excellent works awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize, along with 7 excellent works awarded the State Prize for Science and Technology, Phase V.
The Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for Science and Technology are two noble prizes in the field of science and technology awarded by the Party and the State to authors of works of high value in science, technology and practice.
The award is considered the "Nobel Prize of Vietnam" to honor and recognize contributions, contribute to encouraging, motivating and creating favorable conditions for scientists, especially young scientists, to conduct research and innovate.
Works awarded these prizes must be exemplary scientific works, of high scientific and technological value, socio-economic efficiency, with wide and long-term influence in life, and the result of hard work in research, intellectual dedication and talent of scientists serving the cause of national construction and defense.
Among the projects awarded two prizes this time, many of the authors are very young, with an average age of under 40, such as engineer Phan Tu Giang, the main author of the project "Research on detailed design and application of technology to manufacture, assemble and launch a self-elevating drilling rig at a depth of 90m suitable for Vietnam's conditions".

Speaking at the award ceremony, President Tran Dai Quang acknowledged the efforts and dedication of the team of scientists, the achievements and contributions of science and technology to the all-round development of the country in recent times.
The President also requested the Ministry of Science and Technology, along with ministries, sectors and localities, to have policies and mechanisms for training, rewarding and honoring scientists, especially talented experts, creating conditions for scientists to have the opportunity to promote their capacity and contribute.
As of 2016, through four rounds of awarding the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize (in 1996, 2000, 2005, and 2010), the President has awarded 216 scientific and technological works and clusters of works. Of which, 82 projects and clusters of projects won the Ho Chi Minh Prize and 134 projects and clusters of projects of the State on science and technology. Authors of works receiving the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Science and Technology will receive a reward worth 270 months of basic salary. Authors receiving the State Prize for Science and Technology will receive a reward worth 170 months of basic salary at present. |
