Over 12,000 Nghe An people working in border areas do not have labor contracts as prescribed.
(Baonghean.vn) - That is the information presented at the Workshop "Migration Information Office: Good Practices and New Migration Trends" organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Department of Overseas Labor Management (under the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs) in coordination with the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Nghe An province on the morning of May 7.

At the workshop, delegates heard an overview of the scale and operations of migration information offices in the Mekong sub-region.
In Vietnam, up to now, the Migration Information Center (MRC) has provided immigration information consultation to thousands of workers, of which 70% of consultations are by phone. The number of workers needing consultation is increasing over time, currently hundreds of people/month.
In Nghe An alone, the Migration Information Office has been in operation since April 2018 and has reached over 1,000 people. The office has initially become a trusted address for providing information to migrant workers.

Because of the benefits that the office brings, in the period of 2015-2018 alone, the whole province has created jobs for 150,510 people, reaching 100.47% of the plan. Of which, 53,174 workers were exported, an increase of 15.4% compared to the period of 2010-2014.
However, the situation of illegal labor migration to work and reside illegally in Laos, Thailand, China... is still complicated and tends to increase, mainly in areas where Mong people live.
Currently, there are still 12,435 Nghe An workers working in border areas without labor contracts as prescribed by the Law on Vietnamese Workers Working Abroad. There are still 1,014 workers working in border areas and overseas without labor contracts as prescribed, mainly concentrated in Laos, China, and Thailand.

At the workshop, delegates also discussed the need and ways to strengthen cooperation between offices, strengths and issues that need improvement such as landscape, services, capacity, resources; discussed ways to support sustainable office operations.
The Migration Resource Center (MRC) was established in Vietnam in November 2011. The office facilitates safe migration for Vietnamese citizens working abroad, provides information and increases understanding of labor migration issues. Through communication and consultation, it will promote legal labor migration, prevent illegal migration, help migrant workers minimize risks and maximize the benefits of working abroad...
