Implement solutions to develop infrastructure and combat traffic congestion

The report of the Ministry of Transport confirmed the achievements such as: building and perfecting institutions, policies, laws, and strategies implemented synchronously at the grassroots level. In addition, the work of transport management, transport support services, ensuring traffic order and safety, natural disaster prevention, and search and rescue have closely followed the action plan of the industry.

Regarding investment management, construction, exploitation of transport infrastructure, arrangement, innovation, equitization and improvement of efficiency of state-owned enterprises, international cooperation, training, administrative reform, inspection, anti-corruption, and thrift practice, the Transport sector has implemented synchronously and achieved high results.

Regarding traffic accident control, in 2016, all three criteria were reduced nationwide. However, many localities were unable to achieve a 5-10% reduction, with the number of deaths still high, reaching 8,685 and 19,280 injuries. Therefore, this is an issue that needs special attention from provinces and cities.

Quality management continues to be strengthened, ensuring compliance with State regulations. Management and inspection of road motor vehicles, training, testing, issuance and renewal of driving licenses are strengthened to resolve issues quickly and conveniently for the people. Traffic inspections are carried out regularly, focusing on inspection and checking to ensure traffic safety.

At the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung highly appreciated the efforts of the transport sector nationwide. He also noted that the sector needs to strengthen coordination with other sectors and functional forces, continue to synchronously deploy many solutions in quality management, from investment preparation, investment implementation and post-investment; strictly implement state regulations on construction management, management and repair of transport infrastructure.

Strengthen inspection and re-inspection of all projects, especially key projects with high technical requirements, complexity, large total investment, traffic works invested by districts and sectors, creating strong changes in the management of traffic works quality.

The Deputy Prime Minister also requested the transport sector to actively coordinate in implementing solutions to limit traffic congestion in urban areas, restore traffic order and safety; especially the congestion on both air and road routes. The sector also needs to focus on ensuring traffic safety; review and restructure transport in all areas, remove difficulties for transport enterprises to better serve economic and social development.
