Speaking at the conference, Mr. Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized: In recent years, Nghe An has paid attention and focused on winter crop production, thanks to which the income value has continuously increased. The conference is an opportunity for the province to learn from the experience of scientists and other provinces to further improve the efficiency of winter crop production in the province.

According to the report at the conference, in the 2012 winter crop, the northern provinces planted a total area of over 408 thousand hectares, an increase of nearly 30 thousand hectares compared to the 2011 winter crop. The total output reached nearly 3.940 million tons, an increase of more than 65 thousand tons compared to 2011. The average income value per hectare was about 35 - 41 million VND, of which some high-income plants such as chili 400 - 500 million VND, beans 70 - 80 million VND, potatoes 60 - 70 million VND.

In the 2013 winter crop, the northern provinces plan to plant 460-500 thousand hectares, striving for an average income of 36-40 million VND per hectare. In Nghe An province alone, the 2013 winter crop plans to plant 50 thousand hectares, with crops such as corn, peanuts, sweet potatoes, and various vegetables and beans.

At the conference, delegates focused on discussing difficulties and solutions to overcome them for winter crop production such as complex weather conditions, unstable input material prices; small-scale, fragmented production; limited technical level of people; weak infrastructure and processing technology for harvesting; inadequate support policies, etc.

The delegates agreed on solutions to achieve the set goals and plans for the 2013 winter crop production. These include strengthening the linkage between production and product consumption; building large model fields and concentrated raw material areas to improve efficiency for farmers and businesses; inspecting, reviewing and developing appropriate irrigation plans; balancing input supply for crops and materials for winter crop production; and assigning technical staff to closely direct the grassroots right from the beginning of the crop.
