Contemporary Buddhist Art Exhibition

The exhibition displays nearly 200 unique works of art, paintings and antiques imbued with Vietnamese and world Buddhism.

Within the framework of the 2014 UN Vesak Celebration in Bai Dinh, Ninh Binh opened a contemporary Buddhist art exhibition at the Thich Ca Temple, located in the grounds of Bai Dinh Pagoda.

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Most Venerable Thich Trung Hau - Head of the Central Cultural Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha said: On December 15, 1999, the United Nations General Assembly decided to officially establish and recognize Vesak Day with the approval of all Buddhists around the world.

This is the second time Vietnam has officially hosted the 2014 UN Vesak Celebration under the consent of the government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Bai Dinh Pagoda - Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, Ninh Binh Province welcomed more than 10,000 delegates, including more than 1,000 international delegates from more than 95 countries and territories around the world.

Exhibitions of paintings, sculptures, and photographs were held to celebrate the sacred festival with the participation of artists from all over the country. Hopefully, with the spirit of welcoming this grand festival, the second Vesak in Vietnam will be a great success.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held immediately after by the Venerable leaders of the Church, officially allowing guests to enjoy contemporary works of art of the Vietnamese people and Vietnamese Buddhism.

The exhibition program to celebrate Vesak Festival attracted over 15 artists from Ho Chi Minh City, artist associations from India and several other places.

It is known that there are nearly 200 unique works of art, antiques imbued with Vietnamese and world Buddhism on display at the exhibition.

Specially at this exhibition is a series of paintings about the countryside landscape, mountains and rivers typical of Vietnamese cultural identity in general and Trang An and Bai Dinh tourist areas in particular. This is an opportunity for international friends to understand more about Vietnamese culture, images and people.

According to information from the Organizing Committee, the exhibition will last throughout the 2014 Vesak festival in Vietnam./.
