From May 10-19, at the Art Accent gallery in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Singaporean artist Choo Meng Foo is holding an exhibition of paintings titled "Portraits of Vietnam," all created by himself.

With over twenty watercolor paintings (primarily black and white) depicting contemporary life in Vietnam, artist Choo shows the relatively peaceful daily life in this Southeast Asian country and the simplicity and unpretentiousness of the Vietnamese people.

In the painting "A Corner of the Grand Cathedral," artist Choo reflects the moments of relaxation after a day's work for Hanoians in sidewalk cafes with cups of coffee and iced lemonade.

In the photographs "Bicycle Shop," "Motorcycle Shop," and "Street Full of Motorcycles," the artist was deeply impressed by the capital's abundance of two-wheeled vehicles.

In particular, images of Vietnamese women have provided inspiration for artist Choo. Works such as "Street Vendor," "Two Sisters," "Little Girl on the Sea in Ha Long Bay," etc., vividly portray Vietnamese women with their inner beauty and resilience.

Artist Choo said he had showcased his paintings of Vietnam in Singapore many times. But this was the first time he had brought his work abroad for exhibition, and he chose Malaysia to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Malaysia.

He said, "I have been to Vietnam many times and visited many places such as Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An, My Tho, and last year Hanoi and Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh. Everywhere I went, I was very impressed by the charming yet profound beauty, as well as the simplicity, gentleness, and hospitality of the Vietnamese people. That is why I paint about Vietnam and decided to introduce my work to the public."

Regarding his future plans, artist Choo said he will return to Vietnam, and his destination will be the beautiful misty city of Sapa. Of course, an art exhibition like this will be held in Vietnam, possibly in Ho Chi Minh City.
