"Killing" David Luiz, Aguero still escapes FA punishment
The Football Association (FA) has confirmed that Sergio Aguero will not face any punishment for his extremely rough tackle on Chelsea's David Luiz in the FA Cup semi-final.
Aguero tackled David Luiz very roughly
The FA's decision came after it was confirmed that referee Chris Foy had at least seen part of the incident and had made his decision. Foy only awarded Chelsea a free kick and Aguero was not booked. The Man City striker escaped a three-match ban from the FA's disciplinary committee because of a similar incident with Callum McManaman at Wigan.
Slow-motion video showed Aguero stamping on David Luiz's leg in retaliation for the Brazilian's earlier elbow to his chest. However, the FA could only take action once referee Foy and his assistants admitted they had not seen the incident. But in fact an assistant referee was standing on the touchline close to where Aguero's foul took place.
That position allowed the assistant referee to see the incident and that helped Aguero escape a three-match ban. A similar incident happened last month when Wigan's Callum McManaman escaped a ban for a foul on Newcastle's Massadio Haidara at the DW Stadium because the tackle happened 10-15m away from an assistant referee who was looking straight at the violent tackle.
When Aguero tackled David Luiz and Mr. Foy decided to award Chelsea a free kick, it proved that he had observed or been informed of the situation and was completely proactive in his decision to blow the penalty, so the FA Disciplinary Committee did not discipline Aguero.
